Regional Education Projects

LIMCO played a key role in major government-led education infrastructure projects across the Caribbean, beginning with Phase III of the Education Sector Enhancement Programme (ESEP) – EDUTECH 2000 in Barbados. EDUTECH 2000 represented a radical new approach to education delivery, built around four closely interrelated components, one of which was the development of a robust technological infrastructure to support modern teaching and learning environments.

The Challenge of Projects

LIMCO was engaged to provide electrical, mechanical, and network engineering services for the civil components of the programme. This scope included both the rehabilitation of existing facilities and the construction of new school buildings, covering a total of sixteen schools across multiple phases. The work demanded careful coordination to ensure that upgraded infrastructure supported evolving educational technologies while meeting safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

Due to LIMCO’s strong commitment and performance, the firm continued to provide post-contract engineering services from its offices in Kingston, Jamaica. This long-term involvement ensured continuity, quality control, and technical support throughout the lifespan of the programme, contributing to the successful delivery of modernized educational facilities.

Project Requirements

  • Electrical, mechanical, and network engineering design for new and rehabilitated school facilities

  • Support for technology-driven learning environments and modern educational infrastructure

  • Pre- and post-contract engineering services, including design review and construction support

  • Compliance with government regulations, safety standards, and educational facility guidelines

  • Coordination with ministries of education, contractors, and project stakeholders

  • Delivery of scalable, reliable, and future-ready infrastructure solutions

Beyond Barbados, LIMCO has delivered similar education-sector engineering services across Jamaica. These included electrical and mechanical design for the renovation and expansion of Christ Church Foundation School in Barbados; pre- and post-contract electrical, mechanical, and plumbing engineering services for multiple secondary schools under Jamaica’s Ministry of Education Reform of Secondary Education Programme; enhancements to basic and primary schools; and engineering services for tertiary and secondary institutions such as the University of Technology, Jamaica, St. George’s College, and Christiana Primary School.

Project Results

These projects resulted in the successful completion of modernized and newly constructed educational facilities across Barbados and Jamaica. LIMCO’s engineering solutions delivered safe, reliable, and technology-ready schools that support improved learning environments for students and staff. All projects were completed successfully, meeting government standards and timelines, and providing long-term infrastructure improvements that continue to benefit national education systems across the region.
